Health Care for 60,450 Livestock by Vedanta Hindustan Zinc in Rajasthan

A significant step in bringing down cattle mortality & morbidity rate in Rajasthan

Hindustan Zinc in association with Rajasthan Government organized a massive vaccination drive in Rajasthan in Hurda & Shahpura Tehsil that benefitted more than 60,450 Livestock belonging to over 4,650 farmers.

Reports suggest that India has the largest livestock population in the world, around 278 million. In Rajasthan, the Animal Husbandry sector is one of the largest contributor to the State Exchequer. It alone contributes to 8% of GDP of the State. With around 567 lakhs of livestock in Rajasthan, Animal Husbandry is a major source of income for the rural people. The Animal Husbandry has played a significant role in reducing poverty in rural areas by generating various revenue models like milk production, wool production, mutton, to name a few.

While understanding the dependency of the rural people on the Livestock for the sustainable livelihood, Hindustan Zinc has been focussing on the health care of these Livestock during such drives. Through various vaccination camps in a span of 4 months, the company vaccinated about 34,800 and diagnosed and treated more than 25, 650 Livestock. Such health care drives have been essential in decreasing the cattle mortality & morbidity rate resulting in high productivity for the rural people.
