AN INSIGHT - “HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE. ‘BEING SUCCESSFUL’ AND ‘FEELING SUCCESSFUL’ ARE DIFFERENT”, SHRI GAURGOPAL DAS

Shri Gaurgopal Das, motivational lecturer and lifestyle coach from ISKCON, visited Udaipur to interact with the employees of Hindustan Zinc.

“Life is like a mathematical equation. There is a constant and there is a variable. Happiness does not happen automatically in life. You have to choose it to feel it”, said Shri Gaurgopal Das Ji during his interaction with employees of Hindustan Zinc on 29th November 2017 at Hindustan Zinc Yashad Auditorium. Shri Gaurgopal Das was in Udaipur to deliver a lecture under the new initiative launched by Hindustan Zinc – “An Insight”.

His interaction focused on secrets to renew one’s energy and enthusiasm. He said, “In chasing professional success, one may have missed the key to satisfaction, peace and balance in life. Achievement is not the only parameter to judge success. It is not about ‘to have it’ but ‘to live it’”.

With spiritual humour, he emphasized on doing something you love, investing in interpersonal and spiritual time apart from the daily job. It will aid in consciously liking your life. Also, it is important to be thankful for what you have received and achieved in life by writing a gratitude journal.

“In the journey of life, there is birth and death; and in the middle there are challenges and turbulence but it depends on a person how he chooses to live and handle the situations as they come. One can be like a soda bottle which when shaken, gushes out with force or one can be like water in a bottle that remains calm and stable no matter how much it is shaken”, Shri Gaurgopal Das Ji described the way of living the life with this simple example.

Sunil Duggal, CEO of Hindustan Zinc said, “Shri Gaurgopal Das Ji has been very humble to visit Hindustan Zinc and address the employees. On behalf of Hindustan Zinc, I thank him for lending us his insights as to how to look at life and deal with problems while coming up with simple solutions. I also believe that we should take life as a privilege and an opportunity to do something bigger, beyond one’s own capacity.”

The interaction was reached out to more than 500 employees of Hindustan Zinc, where the employees of Head Office and the units joined to listen to the address of Shri Gaurgopal Das Ji.

Shri Gaurgopal Das Ji also participated in tree plantation along with CEO, Hindustan Zinc in Yashad Bhawan premises.

Pavan Kaushik, Head - Corporate Communication, Hindustan Zinc said, “Shri Gaurgopal Das Ji beautifully explained the difference between ‘being successful’ and ‘feeling successful’ and has enlightened us with the key to achieve happiness by focusing on the good things in life rather than dwelling upon the negatives.”

Shri Gaurgopal Das Ji has been addressing corporate firms & headquarters of Google, Sales Force, Infosys, Barclays, Bank of America, E&Y, Ford etc. along with TEDx, celebrities, corporate leaders, medical professionals and prestigious colleges in India & abroad. He has also addressed audience at the British Parliament in London. BEING SAFE - AN INITIATIVE BY HINDUSTAN ZINC

Being Safe, an initiative by Hindustan Zinc, is not just another project on safety, it is a project based on human psychology and his reactions to different situations. The objective of 'Being Safe' is to reach out to workmen and employees through informal interaction and making them understand the value of safety of their lives and also lives of their families.

With the thought : A workman or executive's mind is generally occupied almost 100% in work. As his mind becomes tuned to occupy information only about office, it rejects other inputs, even if they are about his safety or about safety of his family. His mind chooses to give importance to only office work. This leads to acute work pressure and stress.

And that's where the mistakes, near miss or fatality happens.

Being Safe has a vision to dilute this 100% mind occupancy towards office to about 50% and divide the remaining 50% into family, friends and other activities that ultimately find significance to the meaning of life and its importance. Once he understands life beyond office, he is bound to become more conscious to enjoy finer things in life

The workshop starts with conversation mode, screening of recently made safety film, motivational stories and listening to their thoughts about life and safety. A session on 'Knowing Yourself', in simple words, 'Who am I ?' is organized to make them understand the value of their presence in their families.

A 30-seconds intro-meditation session is also conducted. This session makes the employees recall their lives since their childhood, recalling the journey they have had so far Feedback (in general 3 questions) from the participants post workshop is collected in which they appreciated the film, workshop and the safety practises of Hindustan Zinc.

After covering 600 regular and contract employees at Zawar, Rampura Agucha Mines, Chanderiya Smelting Complex, Radpura Dariba Mines and Kayad mine  in phase- I, Phase-II  of 'Being Safe' started with the screening of 2nd Safety film at Zawar and SK mines. This time, the workshop was attended by many of the family members. Live events /case studies were discussed and few of the employees were of the view to show mines to their families.

So far, 'Being Safe' has covered about 810 out of 1200 employees targeted.
