KAYAD MINE SHINES DURING THE MINES ENVIRONMENT & MINERAL CONSERVATION WEEK

Kayad Mine - Hindustan Zinc bagged first prize in several categories like Afforestation, Environment Monitoring, Waste Dump Management, Systematic & Scientific management, Publicity and Propaganda and Overall performance under Mechanised Mines during the Mines and Environment Week 2016-17.


The Mines and Environment Week which was held from 8th – 15th January, 2017 saw participation of about 15 major mechanised mines under aegis of Indian Bureau of Mines. The final event was held on 21st January, 2017 and was graced by Chief Controller of mines, IBM as Chief Guest and Senior Management of Hindustan Zinc. 

HINDUSTAN ZINC RECOGNIZES SUPPLIERS FOR INNOVATION AND EXCELLENCE

The company organizes its 1st Supplier Alignment Meet to focus on Productivity, Quality, Reliability and Sustainability
Hindustan Zinc organized its 1st Supplier Alignment Meet on 1st February, 2017 at Udaipur where about 50 top suppliers across India & world participated. The meet emphasized on Vedanta’s commitment to sustainable supply chain and suppliers’ responsibility to ensure zero non-compliance.

During the meet, Hindustan Zinc shared its growth plans and set way forward goals with suppliers on Productivity, Quality, Reliability and Sustainability. The key message was Global Excellence through innovation and journey towards digitization of supply chain and rolled out projects for the future wherein plant Vehicle Management System will be fully automated through the use of automatic boom barriers, GPS enabled trucks and biometric gate entry system.

Top performing suppliers were also recognized across categories of supply chain alignment, operation excellence and innovation during the meet. With the global business environment expected to be unpredictable, such collaborative working with suppliers helps Hindustan Zinc to be well positioned to achieve excellence by adapting faster.

The participants were also briefed about Hindustan Zinc’s key Community Service Initiatives -  Nandghar(the modern day anganwadis) & Khushi that aim towards education, health & nutrition of under-privileged children and women empowerment.

PRIME MINISTER VISITS 'MAKE IN INDIA' INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION COMPLEX



As part of 16th Foundation Day celebrations of Chhattisgarh, Mineral Resource Department of Chhattisgarh established a Mining/Exploration Stall at 'Make in India' Exhibition Complex in association with Vedanta Exploration (VedEx) at Naya Raipur Exhibition Ground. The focus of this exhibition was on new startup companies, new initiations and new manufacturing concepts.
Vedanta won the first Gold Block auctioned in India (Baghmara, Chhattisgarh). In conjunction with Mineral Resources Department‐Chhattisgarh, VedEx displayed attractive posters on Exploration, Mining & CSR, screened videos on major gold exploration and mining companies with displays of Baghmara gold rock samples. Main attraction of mining stall was the showcase of a dummy with PPEs like helmet, goggle, dust mask, gloves, dangri, safety shoe, ear plug, battery helmet
torch, etc. Hon'ble Prime Minister ‐ Shri. Narendra Modi inaugurated and visited the Mining Stall along with the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh ‐ Mr. Raman Singh on 1st November, 2016. Mr. Terry Barclay ‐ Head Vedanta Exploration greeted the Prime Minister. Chhattisgarh Mines Secretary ‐ Mr. Subodh Singh briefed Prime Minister about Vedanta Baghmara Gold Block. Mines Secretary and the Director State Geology and Mines Department acknowledged and appreciated VedEx's contributions for making this program a grand success.

ZAWAR MINES AWARDED AS WINNER OF CHAIRMAN BUSINESS AWARD FOR Q2

Zawar Mines has been awarded as the Winner of the Chairman Business Award for Quarter 2. The improved operational efficiency in terms of Safety, Production, Productivity and COP was the outcome of implementation of several small Kaizen, improvement initiatives and commitment of the workforce in delivering performance excellence.
The award was presented by Mr. Navin Agarwal ‐ Chairman, Vedanta Limited on 16th December, 2016 and was received by Mr. P.S. Jaitawat ‐ Location Head along with the Zawar Mines team. Also, present were Mr. Sunil Duggal ‐ CEO, HZL, Mr. Amitabh Gupta ‐ CFO, HZL, Mr. L.S. Shekhawat ‐ COO, Mines and Mr. Vikas Sharma ‐ COO, Smelters.


NATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION AWARD - 2016 TO RAM

RAM Mill Stream‐3 won National Energy Conservation Award – 2016 at State and Central levels in
appreciation of implementation of various power saving projects for reducing the specific energy consumption by 4.81 KWH/MT of ore treatment. On the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day i.e., on 14th December, 2016, RAM Mill Stream‐3 won the 2nd Prize in Mining sector at Central Level and the 1st Prize in Large Scale Mining Sector at the State Level. The National Energy Conservation Award was presented by Shri Piyush Goyal ‐ Minister of State for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Mr. P.K. Pujari – Secretary, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India, Mr. B.P. Paney ‐ Special Secretary, Ministry of Power & Director General Bureau of Energy Efficiency at the event held in New Delhi. Mr. J. Balasubramanian and Mr. Akhilesh Kumar from Rampura Agucha Mines received the awards on behalf of Hindustan Zinc.

DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION RECOGNIZED ZAWAR MINES

Zawar Mines has been recognized by District Administration Udaipur for its contribution in Water Conservation Project under PPP model ‐ Mukhya Mantri Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan on 3rd October, 2016. Mrs. Aruna Cheeta - CSR was recognized by Mr. Avichal Chaturvedi – CEO, Zila Parishad and Mr. C.R. Dewasi ‐ Additional District Magistrate at Zila Parishad Sabhagaar. Hindustan Zinc contributed in construction of RCC retaining wall at Baaraan village for conservation of rain water at dam to ensure availability of rain water for irrigation purpose throughout the year.

5S AWARD 2016 TO HZL

Hindustan Zinc received 'Par Excellence Award' at 4th National Conclave on 5S at a ceremony in Mumbai on 26th November, 2016. Mr. Manvendra Ghosh, Mr. Mahendra Suthar from Rampura Agucha Mine and Ms. Bhawana Prajapati from CRDL received the award. Quality Circle Forum of
India, Secundarabad organizes 5S Award, an initiative towards excellence Workplace Management and Par Excellence Award is a testimony Hindustan Zinc's focus towards quality.

SAP ACE AWARD 2016 TO HZL

Hindustan Zinc received the SAP ACE Award 2016 for its MII Project. Mr. Chetan Trivedi ‐ Head IT, HZL was also conferred as IT Person of the Year in individual category. SAP ACE Awards are an industry benchmark and given to corporate and individuals who have demonstrated the spirit of innovation by leveraging SAP solutions.

HZL RECEIVED SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING AWARD

Hindustan Zinc has received the award for Sustainability Reporting for its first sustainability report in accordance with GRI G4 Guidelines during India Sustainability Leadership and Award function by World CSR Day organization on 24th November, 2016. Corporate like L&T, Shree Cement, Piramal and many other participated in various categories of awards. HZL was the only one who received the award in Sustainability Reporting
category. The award was received by Mr. Hitendra Bhuptawat on behalf of HZL.

HINDUSTAN ZINC TO INVEST IN SETTING UP 115 MW SOLAR ENERGY PLANTS IN RAJASTHAN

Commissioning of 15 MW by March and 100 MW by September, 2017.
The Head Office of Hindustan Zinc at Udaipur currently runs on solar energy

Taking forward Hon'ble Prime Minister ‐ Shri Narendra Modi's vision to expand renewable energy in India, Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta group company in zinc, lead and silver business and India's only integrated producer of zinc‐lead is entering into solar energy business. The company already produces 474 MW of thermal power and 274 MW of wind‐energy.
The Indian government has a strong focus on non‐conventional energy sources and is looking to ultimately produce 100 GW power from solar energy. Hindustan Zinc has been working progressively towards setting up 115 MW of solar energy projects with an investment of Rs. 630 crores.
Mr. Sunil Duggal ‐ CEO, HZL informed that in the first phase, the Company will set‐up of 15 MW solar energy projects which would require an investment of Rs. 80 crores and is likely to be commissioned by March, 2017. The second phase would be of 100 MW requiring an investment of Rs. 550 crore which is likely to be commissioned by September, 2017. The average cost of setting‐up 1 MW of solar energy plant is about Rs. 5.50 crore.
"The energy produced will be utilized for captive use only. Out of 15 MW, 10 MW solar power projects will be installed at Zinc Smelter Debari and remaining 5 MW will be installed at Rajpura Dariba Mine of Hindustan Zinc" Mr. Sunil Duggal added.
The 5 MW solar power project at Rajpura Dariba Mine would be the 1st such project in the District of Rajsamand in Rajasthan. The 10 MW project also would be the largest solar energy project in the District of Udaipur.
The company also produces 274 MW of Wind Power in its green energy farms located in Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
Hindustan Zinc has already installed solar roof top projects with a capacity of 100 KW each at Head Office‐Udaipur and at Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter in January, 2016. The company is also looking to develop solar energy projects in other parts of Rajasthan.
